Summary

Harry Potter's life is miserable。 His parents are dead and he's stuck with his heartless relatives, who force him to live in a tiny closet under the stairs。 But his fortune changes when he receives a letter that tells him the truth about himself: he's a wizard。 A mysterious visitor rescues him from his relatives and takes him to his new home, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry。

After a lifetime of bottling up his magical powers, Harry finally feels like a normal kid。 But even within the Wizarding community, he is special。 He is the boy who lived: the only person to have ever survived a killing curse inflicted by the evil Lord Voldemort, who launched a brutal takeover of the Wizarding world, only to vanish after failing to kill Harry。

Though Harry's first year at Hogwarts is the best of his life, not everything is perfect。 There is a dangerous secret object hidden within the castle walls, and Harry believes it's his responsibility to prevent it from falling into evil hands。 But doing so will bring him into contact with forces more terrifying than he ever could have imagined。

Full of sympathetic characters, wildly imaginative situations, and countless exciting details, the first installment in the series assembles an unforgettable magical world and sets the stage for many high-stakes adventures to come。

The first time I read this series occurred way back in middle school。 Now, here I am approximately ten years later rereading the series for the first time after finding and purchasing the MinaLima and Jim Kay illustrated editions (if you have not encountered either, please do yourself a favor and search both versions right now。 You will not regret this)。While most people would be apprehensive about rereading a loved series from their childhood and risking the chance of losing interest in the ser The first time I read this series occurred way back in middle school。 Now, here I am approximately ten years later rereading the series for the first time after finding and purchasing the MinaLima and Jim Kay illustrated editions (if you have not encountered either, please do yourself a favor and search both versions right now。 You will not regret this)。While most people would be apprehensive about rereading a loved series from their childhood and risking the chance of losing interest in the series, I was elated to start this journey。 I have long regretted not keeping up with the series and inevitably losing the memory of the details/scenes I once loved。 After seeing the illustrated copies on Barnes and Noble's website and watching a few minutes of the flip through videos by the Youtube channel "The Potter Collector," I decided this would be the perfect way to get back into the series。 Not only would this be the same story, but I would have the added elements of stunning illustrations depicting scenes the way others envisioned them。 I bought one of every book from each of the collections that was available and I do not regret this one bit。 I am reading the series with the Jim Kay collection as it has a more "adult" like drawing style and I feel like there is less of a risk of tearing up the interactive pieces found in the MinaLima edition。 After I finished reading Jim Kay's version, I am going through each page of the MinaLima edition to receive the "full effect" from both editions。 This book will forever and always be one of my favorite books。 I cannot describe to you the amount of nostalgia I experienced reading this book and how many times I came close to tears as I looked upon each scene fondly。 It felt amazing to read the scenes I remembered the most, but even more so to discover scenes I had long forgotten。 I can't wait to reread this entire series through the summer and to, perhaps, one day reread the series once more with my own child (not in the plans yet, but maybe when this world settles down)。 。。。more

🚨SPOILER ALERT🚨100 POINTS FOR GRYFFINDOR! This book has a fantastic story and message。 "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" gives us what we want when we want to escape our world and jump into a magical one。 But, let's be clear about something, this book exploits the concept of privilege to a whole other level。 Because Harry survived an attack against one of the most heinous of wizards and he's "special" doesn't mean he can get away with literally ANYTHING。 Harry went with his friends, Ron an 🚨SPOILER ALERT🚨100 POINTS FOR GRYFFINDOR! Award them with the house cup, of course。 Regardless of a few favoritism moments Dumbledore had when dealing with Harry。 The story's message is quite powerful and sad at the same time。 Even though Harry's mom, Lily Potter, got murdered, her love still embraced her son。 He defeated Voldemort and thwarted his plans to become immortal thanks to that love。 After reading this book, I ran as fast as possible to see what happened to Harry in the following story。 Still, I'll leave my take on that in another review。 。。。more

Rereading for the umpteenth time, on the 25th anniversary, and I love this book, and its author, more than ever。 Read it for the first time in the nineties when I was at primary school, and 25 years on, it's just as perfect。 Wonderful, life-changing book about bravery, adventure, friendship, and truth。 Magical, obviously。“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends。”― JK Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Rereading for the umpteenth time, on the 25th anniversary, and I love this book, and its author, more than ever。 Read it for the first time in the nineties when I was at primary school, and 25 years on, it's just as perfect。 Wonderful, life-changing book about bravery, adventure, friendship, and truth。 Magical, obviously。“It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends。”― JK Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 。。。more

I haven’t read the first HARRY POTTER book in a while, (20 years just about) and yep, it’s still as good as I remembered it, what a shock, right? While I’m sure almost everything that can be said has already been said about this book and this series, there is one gripe I did have while reading it。 Minor, but I feel like it’s worth mentioning (in fact, I think there was a whole article written about this point, but since I’m such a mild Wizarding World fan, I might have missed it)。So, there’s one I haven’t read the first HARRY POTTER book in a while, (20 years just about) and yep, it’s still as good as I remembered it, what a shock, right? Egypt? Mauritius? Madagascar, Senegal? Yeah, I get this book was written in the 90s when the average Western understanding of the African continent was limited to cherry-picked descriptions shown on TV, i。e warfare, child soldiers, and disease (and stubbornly trying to dissociate Egypt from the continent) but I feel like since the wizards of the Wizarding World universe are such a super insular societies not influenced or swayed by the broader Muggle world at the slightest that they’ll actually NAME the regions, countries, and cultures that were part of their diaspora。 Not to mention that since J。K in recent years has *wink-winked* the notion that magic in her world originates from someplace on the African continent, this would actually reinforce the notion that Wizarding families--especially those of pure-blood descent would be very much familiar with the different magnitudes of countries and cultures of the continent。Well, that ends that rant lol。 For the most part, I enjoyed the read。 。。。more

This book is a masterpiece by J。K Rowling。 I've read it 2 times and I'm still not bored。 These books are worth reading。 It's fantastic, interesting and humorous。 It also gives you a lesson and it's wonderful。 It's also suspenseful because you'll always say it's Snape but it's actually Quirrell。 Of I keep writing this review will be very lengthy amd you'll be bored so I suggest you really should read this book。 SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!! No hay palabras para definir lo maravilloso que es este libro。

Eylem Caner

Probably the weakest of the series, this first installment, although great at setting up the universe, is paces behind the rest of the series, but still much better than I had remembered。 I still get lost in it。
